AI vs human

Artificial intelligence (“AI”) is a big part of our world, however, the human element of transcription outweighs AI transcription because:

  • We humans hear the intonations and most of the muffled and mumbled speech and over talking.
  • We’ll have several attempts at picking up those tricky words and will hone in on what’s being said by enthusiastic participants who may be over talking each other.
  • When we speak, our sentences may not flow and, therefore, sentence structure is sometimes required without losing the context of what is said, which humans do while transcribing and AI isn’t able to.

Having audio recordings transcribed by AI is quicker than a human but very often AI transcripts require extensive editing where it would have been more efficient use of your time and budget to initially engage a human to do it.  We’ve been asked a few times to “tidy up and correct” documents which have been transcribed by AI and it’s quicker for us to retype the transcript.

Intelligent verbatim transcripts require the exclusion of ums, ahs, repetitions and false starts, again, which humans are able to do and AI is not.  We have a sample of anonymised text which was transcribed by AI and we have tracked the changes required to be made and we also have the same text typed by a human.  If you would like to compare the difference between the two and the volume of changes that were required to be made to the AI sample, contact us to discuss this.

Whether your requirement is general transcription, legal transcription or medical transcription the humans at Purple Giraffe will accurately and quickly transcribe your digital audio recordings.
