AI transcription vs human transcription

Artificial intelligence may be encroaching on the world of speech to text transcription but it does not yet have the ability to replace humans entirely.

We would argue that the accuracy that comes with human transcribers far outweighs any savings made via the use of AI transcription.

1) Accurately deciphered with intonation

Human transcribers can detect and decipher muffled speech, people talking over one another and most importantly we can recognize the intonation of the speaker.

AI is currently unable to do this.

2) Tricky words and multiple voices clarified

We will make several attempts at picking up tricky words and will hone in on what’s being said by enthusiastic participants who may be talking over each other.

AI will transcribe what it thinks it hears whether it makes sense or not.

3) Sentence structure and context maintained

When speaking naturally, we don’t always use structured sentences. A good human transcriber can maintain the sentence structure without losing the context of what is said.

AI is unable to do this.

Having audio recordings transcribed by AI may be quicker but very often AI transcripts require extensive human editing.  More often than not, it’s a more efficient use of your time and budget to initially engage a human to do it and get it right first time. On a few occasions when we’ve been asked to “tidy up documents which have been transcribed by AI” it’s  actually been quicker to just transcribe the entire audio file from scratch.
